Does your bedroom feel a little dull? Perhaps it lacks the va va voom it once had? Your bedroom is the one room your spend most of your day in, all be it when you’re asleep. It’s a place to relax and unwind, so you need to make sure it still makes you feel that way. There are many things you can do to give your bedroom a new lease of life, but below are the 7 signs you need to look out for first.
- Clutter

If your bedroom has become a dumping ground for piles of once worn items of clothing, books, magazines and tea mugs you know it’s time to spruce things up and actually enjoy relaxing in what should be your sanctuary. So, the first step is to de-clutter and get rid of anything that isn’t pleasing to the eye or useful! If you have a chair that is usually hidden under a pile of clothing, consider recovering or painting it and adding a throw or cushion to prevent further temptation!
- Windows

A gloomy room can deflate the spirits so, if your room is a bit on the dark side, lighten things up with gauzy, sheer curtains over blackout blinds. Blinds come in a range of colors and are almost hidden when pulled up. Adding a modern or classic new curtain pole can also really improve the look of the room. Hanging the curtains higher and wider achieves a larger looking window.
- The Bed

Bedding can get tired and worn quite quickly depending on the quality of bed linen. Invest in two good quality duvet sets to alternate and to fit in with your chosen color scheme. Replacing flattened old pillows with plump new ones will make the bed look so much more enticing. Accessorize with matching cushions and throws to make the bed a truly inviting place to be.
- Decor

Peeling wallpaper or paint can really drag the look of your room down, so it’s time to get decorating. With a quick sanding down of the woodwork, a lick of gloss, and some satin paint on the walls, it doesn’t take too long to revamp the look of the whole room. Keeping to neutrals or creams for the walls and adding pops of color with your accessories, means you can change it around when the mood strikes. Adding a feature wall using wallpaper or a large piece of art is a great way of modernizing your room. A feature picture wall is a great idea with neat rows or blocks of smaller prints.
- Flooring

Old fashioned or threadbare carpets are not a good look. Check to see if your floor boards are suitable for sanding and either varnishing or painting. Rugs can be an inexpensive alternative to completely re-carpeting. A jute rug on a painted floor creates a coastal living style which is ideal with shabby chic décor. Rugs can also hide unsightly carpet stains and create a whole new look.
- Furniture

Old fashioned or dark furniture may seem like a big expense to replace but can be given a new lease of life with a little sanding and painting. Even the most reticent decorator can get to grips with some simple renovation techniques. Replacing old knobs and handles with sparkling crystal, painted ceramics or modern and sleek shapes help with the transformation.
- Lighting

There is a huge range of ceiling lights on the market which can not only brighten up a dull space but add a stunning feature. Mood lighting using lamps is also a great way to create atmosphere. Feature mirrors can create the illusion of a larger room and are a great way to reflect light.
