1. Apple Cider Vinegar Trap

Apple cider vinegar is the most effective and common way of getting rid of fruit flies. This thing really works because fruit flies just run towards the smell of fermentation (this vinegar is made from fermented apples, so voila!). Take a jar and fill 1/3rd of it with warm apple cider vinegar (it doesn’t work with any other type of vinegar), add a few drops of dishwashing soap. Cover the jar with a plastic wrap. Poke holes in the plastic and let it sit in the most infested area. The fruit flies will get through from the holes but won’t be able to fly away.

2. Wine Bottle Trap

Ever thought all it takes to get rid of fruit flies is to make it high on alcohol? Well yes, red wine works just perfectly to get rid of fruit flies. Just fill up the bottle with half a glass or so of wine and leave the top open and see the magic happen – the fruit flies shall die a drunken death.

3. Bleach Traps

Say no to these pests from your kitchen sink with bleach! Mix a small amount of bleach with 2 liters of water, shake it well and pour it down your kitchen sink ; make sure you don’t spill any of it! Once you’ve poured all of it, let it sit for 30 minutes before using the sink. The bleach removes all food scraps and particles whose smell attracts the fruit flies!

4. Rotten Fruit Trap

Rotten fruit attracts fruit flies, so just give them some rotten fruit and good riddance. Put nearly rotten fruit in a jar and cover with a plastic wrap. Poke holes in it with a toothpick and see the flies coming in to feast on the rotten piece of fruit. Once they come in and the jar is full, submerge the jar in soap water for a good 10-15 minutes to make certain that the fruit flies are gone.

5. Lemongrass Spray Trap

Another easy way of preventing fruit flies in your home is lemon grass spray. Take a spray bottle, put 10 – 15 drops of lemongrass oil and add a few ounces of hot water to it. Put on the bottle cap and shake well. Spray the liquid directly on to fruit flies; wherever you see them. Preferably, spray on window cracks, and potential places from where they can enter, especially areas in the kitchen.

Using these tips and remedies can make your home free of fruit flies. Apart from these tips, it’s important to ensure you have fresh fruit in your home and isn’t left around in the corners, or in the kitchen to rot. Also, make sure you keep the areas clean and clutter free to prevent pest from feasting on edibles in your home.
