Living in a small area does not mean you can’t have everything you want in a home. With minimal space, you have the freedom to let your imagination run wild with innovative space saving ideas.

Loft the Bed

This idea might remind you of college when you has to loft the bed to fit a sofa underneath. In a high vaulted area of your home utilize the ceiling space for a bedroom area. You can construct a wood platform that looks like a loft space and will hold your bed.

Tucking your bed into such an area creates a cozy, intimate feeling and does not compete against any other furniture for precious floor space.

Frame a Doorway

There is generally tons of wasted wall space around door frames. You could decorate it with pictures and wall hangings BUT if you created a unique bookshelf around the frame, it could provide invaluable space for books, magazines and knick knacks.

Utilize the Ceiling

If you prefer a practical urban style then you can use your ceiling as extra storage. Your ceiling and upper walls offer unoccupied space and your favorite items can be displayed as décor. Put the space above your head to work by hanging bicycles, snow boards, surf boards or skis.

Buying a wall unit can help use up much of the wasted wall space that is generally in between your furniture. If you need all of the space you can, finding a large wall unit offers you space to place what you want where you want. A room divider is perfect if you live in an open flat or floor plan and would like to create separate living areas. Many dividers come with shelves so that you can both separate your space and utilize the cubbies in between.
