6 Tips for Functional Gear Storage

Fall is a busy season for families. With the school year starting up and sports practices in full swing, it’s hard to find time for important things like organizing the garage. In fact, having a clean and organized garage may be the furthest down on your “to do” list, until you start tripping over lazily discarded sports equipment on your way to the car. Here’s some options for storing sports equipment that are both organized and functional.

Ball Bags: This is the perfect functional option for people who need access to balls frequently. Store all your soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs in here with ease. Added plus, ball bags help decrease your chances of accidents occurring because they get balls up and off the floor.

Hook Systems: If you want the kids to put back their toys after playing with them, then you need to make it super easy. Hook systems are great for kids because it doesn’t take very much effort to put things away, just hook them and walk away. Another benefit to hook systems is that everything is easily seen, so there is no digging around for that one specific item.

Cabinets for Shoes: If your kids play sports, there’s a big chance that their tennis shoes and cleats are stinky. Cabinets are a great way to store these items out of sight and out of smell. Each member of your family should have their own shelf that they can use for shoe storage. This will keep things neat and organized.

Big Item Storage: Not all sports include small equipment. If your family enjoys kayaking or surfing, you may be having a hard time finding a storage spot for all your stuff. There are many specialized storage options for this type of equipment. Try using hooks and racks that are specialized for these sports.

Overhead Storage: When a sport season is over it’s likely that you won’t be using that item again until next year. If you’re looking to free up space in the garage, try utilizing overhead storage options. Overhead storage is great because all it takes it a ceiling.

Specialized Racks: If your family has a specific sport that they are crazy about, try out a specialized rack. These are great because they are made with that specific sport or product in mind. Like hook storage systems, racks allow you to get items up and off the floor. When organizing your garage it is also important to designate specific areas to a function. A specific rack for one sport is a great way to keep your family organized.

Organizing the garage and getting your kids to put up their sports gear isn’t hard with the right tools for the job. What pieces of sports equipment does your family use frequently but you have a hard time finding a place for? Tell us in the comments below.
