Welcome back to our HGTV Green Home series! If you haven’t already checked out Part 1 of the first floor, be sure to visit so you don’t miss out.
If you’re just tuning in, Part 2 of the first floor is the second stop on our HGTV Green Home series! This post features a “do” room and the garage. Let’s get started!
“Do” Room

Whether you need to start a load of laundry, wrap presents, or work on an art project, this room has you covered! The “Do” room is best described as wall-to-wall cabinetry and built to conceal work spaces. Since this room will receive a lot of activity, the individual carpets tiles are taped together to be easily removed and replaced.
Features of the “Do” Room include:
- Energy Star front load washer and dryer
- Small wash area
- Storage shelves for crafting and gift-wrapping
- Craft center
- A barn door, constructed of beetle-kill pine wood
- 3×3-foot tabletop and a 3×3-foot mobile island topped with stainless steel formica

Garage

One of our favorite parts of the house is a custom-crafted pet shower to ensure mud will stay outside, not on the hardwood floors. Next to the pet shower is a storage shelf stalked with tons of pet supplies, treats and toys. However, the garage isn’t just for Fido. It’s also has the home’s solar inverter which, according to HGTV, converts direct current power to alternating current power and feeds this energy to the electricity panel that powers the home.
Features of the Garage include:
- Chrome hand-held shower with a 69-inch hose and four functions
- Storage shelf with pet supplies
- Small mudroom at the top of the stairs
- Oh yeah… and a brand-new 2011 GMC Terrain!

Do you think your dog would enjoy his/her own bathtub? How much use would your kids get out of the “do” room?
Stay tuned for this week’s second floor series, featuring the 3 bedrooms and a loft!
