Benefits of Wireless Home Security Systems

One of the greatest advances in home security systems is the invention of the wireless home security system. This system makes installation easier, makes installation cheaper, has fewer vulnerabilities and works with almost any home. Let’s take a look at some of the major benefits that wireless home security systems have to offer.

The Basics: How Does it Work?

A wireless home security system runs on radio waves rather than wires. All the security devices around the house, including motion sensors, contact sensors and image sensors all communicate with the central control unit using radio waves.

Likewise, the central control unit uses radio waves to communicate with all other devices. All commands, including intrusion detection, motion detection, arming and disarming all go through radio frequencies.

These radio waves can penetrate most walls and have a range of several hundred feet.

Installation: Where Wireless Systems Truly Shine

One of the biggest hurdles traditional systems have is installation. In order to install a traditional home security system, you have to wire each and every device back to the main control unit. This means tons of wiring time. That wiring time of course translates to high installation costs.

Some homes are designed in a way that’s very difficult to wire. Spiral staircases, oddly placed windows and other abnormalities can make placing a traditional alarm system extremely costly, if not entirely impossible.

On the other hand, installing a wireless home security system is a piece of cake. It can be done in just a couple hours. All the radio frequencies simply beam through the walls. No complicated wiring, no electrical leads, no wire stripping and no circuit testing.

Better yet, the installation isn’t fixed the way a traditional installation is. All these devices can be easily moved to other locations. If you decide to install a new window or change your garage into an extra bedroom, you can easily refit your old devices without having to completely redo your entire setup.

A Safer and Less Vulnerable Setup

A wireless security system is also more secure than a traditional system.

You can’t cut the line on a wireless setup. You can’t snip out a motion sensor or disconnect an image sensor. Sophisticated burglars might know how to cut the wire on a wired home security system, but there’s nothing they can do against a wireless one.

Another big plus to wireless security is that it works even in blackouts. That’s also another security benefit: Thieves can’t just cut the power cable and break in. This system effectively defeats most of the ways burglars try to break into secured homes.

Remote Controllable by Mobile Device

A wireless system can be controlled remotely using smart phones or PCs.

You can arm your home system or disarm your home system from an external device. You can also generate new security codes for people on the go.

For example, a friend of yours unexpectedly comes by to drop off a present. Instead of asking them to leave it at the door, you can just generate a new security code for them all from your cell phone.

For people who’re regularly in a rush, this can also save time. Everyone knows how much of a hassle it can be to remember to set your alarm system before you leave your home if you’re in a big hurry. This system allows you to just leave your home in peace and only set your alarm once you’re in the comfort of your car.

Remote Notification Systems

Finally, your home wireless security system can notify you of any activity with your systems.

For example, you can get an email or a text message whenever your alarm gets armed or disarmed. Did your kids make it home safely from school? This notification system can help ease your mind.

For added security, image sensor systems can take pictures of whatever it was that set off an alarm. You can use this image to decide whether or not the call the authorities. The images can be sent instantly to your remote PC or mobile device, so you can always rest assured that your home is safe.

In short, wireless home security systems are less expensive to setup, safer all around, easier to manage and come with many remote access features that make your life easier.

  1. That’s pretty cool that you can control it with your PC and Phone.

  2. I’ve tried to purchase home security alarm system the one with do-it-yourself installation. But the problem is there was an activation that I could not understand because its too technical so I just end up having someone from that shop where I bought it install it for me. Luckily they have installed it free of charge!

  3. thanks for reminding us such important benefits of wireless security system, these are some of the important benefits which realy attracts the customers.

  4. The whole world is going wireless then why not devices to secure this world. Till now we have seen tremendous growth and benefits in wireless devices and therefore it is better and actually the best to install wireless devices in our bungalows and especially in government buildings.
