Readying Your Bathroom for Halloween

Halloween is one of those rare occasions when everyone gets to be a child again; whether you roam the streets with young ones ‘trick or treating’ or like to throw costume parties and do the monster mash with friends and family, Halloween is a fun event packed with spooks, scares and sugary treats!
A hugely popular tradition of Halloween is to decorate the home to resemble a creepy haunted house, perfect for scaring the trick or treaters or creating the perfect setting for a themed party. If you are looking to pack in some extra scares, what better room of the house could there be to decorate than the one they would least expect; the bathroom!

Devilish Décor
When decorating your creepy bathroom, it’s best to start with the general décor before adding the novelty features. This creates a more authentic and atmospheric space that is sure to set even the bravest visitor on edge.

Adding black ‘creepy cloth’ around the windows will give the room an worn and ruined look, and stopping any light entering from outside will make the room feel much more secluded! All good stores sell fake cobwebbing around Halloween, and stretching out some of this across door frames, window frames and walkways will add an even more creepy feeling. Add a lampshade or dimmer to the room to ensure the light level is low, this will allow you to add a few more nasty surprises to the room, without the victim seeing them straight away.

For kids’ Halloween parties, simple cartoon transfers can add that Halloween atmosphere whilst keeping the theme friendly for young children.

Frightening Features
Now that the room is ready to be filled with unexpected scares, we can get started at sourcing some freaky features to add!

From personal experience, I can tell you an unexpected monster or creep in the shower can give visitors a scare! Fill a boiler suit or ‘all in one’ suit with tissue paper, newspaper or foam, and pin on a stuffed stocking for a head. Next, find the scariest mask you can get your hands on and fit it to the head. Finally, prop the model up in your shower, or in a corner of the room to give guests a shock!

Adding dangling spiders to the top of an ‘ajar’ door is a good way to scare bathroom-goers; balance the spider on top of the door, fix the elastic to the door frame and watch as the cheeky arachnid bounces down when guests open the door.

Shower curtains can be bought which feature bloody handprints and blood spatter, reminiscent of the popular Alfred Hitchcock movie ‘Psycho’. Couple this with a bloodbath ‘using non-stain red colouring mixed with bathwater and corn syrup and you can create a full bloodbath to creep out your guests!

Decorating the bathroom for Halloween is a perfect way of keeping that creepy atmosphere consistent throughout your home, as well as giving guests a fright!
