Weekend Warrior – Where Does Your Garden Grow? Anywhere.

Here at Weekend Warrior, we love us some gardening. Plants, flowers, and veggies – you name it, we like to grow it. Problem is we don’t always have the room to plant what we want. So, what’s a green thumb to do? Here are a few ideas…

Small Space Basics

When it comes to finding space, think containers. Whether you use individual pots, window boxes, or your own creative DIY solutions, it’s easy to cultivate your green thumb no matter how little room you have. Just be sure that your plants get the sun (six to eight hours) and water they need to thrive.

Window Boxes and Container Gardening

If you’ve got a sunny windowsill, patio, or balcony you’ve got the right foundation for growing delicious herbs and veggies. Be sure to buy a variety of sizes, as different plants require different spaces. Large veggies like tomatoes, beans, and cucumbers need large pots with diameters of at least two feet. Small pots work best for peppers and herbs. For more info, head on over to marthastewart.com.

Go With Gutters

Another creative idea is to mount gutters along a wall or fence. Not only are they cheap, they’re also really cool (and convenient). To make a gutter garden all you need are some pieces of aluminum gutter, tin snips, gutter endcaps and mounting clips, pebbles and potting soil, and what ever plants or herbs you wish to grow. To see how they’re made check out this post over at handsoccupied.com.

Shoe Organizer Garden

When we came across the plans for this shoe organizer garden over at instructables.com, we immediately thought it was one of the most ingenious things we’d seen in a long time. Talk about an easy! All you need is a hanging pocket shoe organizer, something to attach it to the wall with, soil, and seeds and you’re in business.
