We all experience dryness during the winter, but did you know that it may be caused by turning up your heating system? In the winter it’s especially important to invest in a humidifier because homes should have a constant humidity level between 30 and 50 percent. Below we’ve provided 10 benefits of using a humidifier in your home this winter:
1. Maintains Health – Dry air is the perfect breeding ground for flue or cold viruses. Maintaining an ideal humidity level in the home can be a preventative measure against getting sick.
2. Beneficial for Dry Skin – Relieves and prevents dry and scratchy skin.
3. Valuable for the Home – Low humidity can cause wallpaper to peel, wood flooring to dry out, separate and crack, and wood furniture to crack and split.
4. Air Feels Warmer, Saves Money – Dry air feels cooler than humidified air, and the warmer homeowner’s feel, the less the furnace will be running, saving money.
5. Removes Static Electricity – When the air is dry, static electricity is the perpetrator of frizzy hair, tousled clothes and electric shocks that are felt when touching doorknobs. Raising the humidity level will help reduce the amount of the static electricity annoyance in the home.
6. Healthy Environment for Indoor Plants – Many indoor plants require humidity to survive, or else their leaves will dry out and turn brown.
7. Snoring Relief – Humidity moisturizes the respiratory system which can reduce the intensity and loudness of snoring.
8. Soothes the Throat and Nose – Moist air can keep mucus membranes from drying out, which is a primary cause of a stuffy nose and sore throat.
9. Prevents Electric Shocks – As discussed in number five, humidity will limit the amount of static electricity, but it will also prevent detrimental electric shocks around computers and electronics.
10. Helps Babies Sleep and Feel Better – A baby tends to be more comfortable and sleep better in a humidified environment, which provides a restful night for everyone in the house.
