A cluttered home is a big source of stress and chaos. It cannot be easily reorganized in one go. However, if you reorganize your home successfully, you will not only make your life easier but also spend less time on searching things and tripping over things.
The following are some useful tips to help you get rid of the clutter progressively and reclaim your clean, stress-free, and organized home.
1. Schedule a Time, Preferably Weekend
If you are worried about a great amount of clutter and end up with confusion on how to start, just schedule a weekend for the de-cluttering task. This will not only help you finish the task but also get you out of frustration of not being able to organize everything in order right away.
2. Organize Small Areas First
It is a good idea to start organizing small areas of the house before larger ones. You may get to the work first with closet or your home office desk and then large spaces such as kitchen or living room. If, for instance, you start emptying your closets and your drawers of old things that you don’t need or use anymore, you are actually making more room for other useful items.
3. Sort out Items
While sorting things at home, put similar items together: your shirts together; pants at one place. Likewise, organize your files, insurance papers and stationery in the same fashion.
4. Organize in two Steps
Step 1
Organize things in accordance with their use and importance. If you find things that you have not used for the last one year or they simply do not serve their purpose anymore, chances are you may not use them in the time to come. So get rid of these items either by donation, sale, or the trash.
Tip: An easy way to getting rid of clutter especially from your closet is to dispose of one or two articles of clothing for every new one you purchase.
Step 2
Now organize the useful and important items by putting them in their proper place and in an order that makes sense. If you need to, buy yourself some organizers. For your convenience you can divide these items into two categories.
Category 1:
This includes those items that you frequently use, perhaps once or twice a day such as your cell phone, shoes, tools, and the like. Place your keys in a key-box or a glass bowl near the door; keep tools in a tool box; and buy some shoe organizer or whatever that helps you locate important items quite easily.
Category 2:
The things you generally use at least once a week or a month are included in this category. Generally, these items belong to closets, garages and other areas of the house that are out of the sight. Hang your clothes in the closet and store the rest of the things into relevant storage containers, preferably crystal clear ones so you can easily see through them and know about the content and label them.
5. Maintain a Clutter-Free Home
One easy tip to keep your home clutter-free is to do a little de-cluttering work every day. A few minutes are enough to put things back in their proper place, organize your pencils and ball-pens, put the mails on a box, pile up books and put the laundry to its specified area. This practice will help you a great deal to prevent the accumulation of different things in the wrong place that often leads to clutter.
These steps are sure to bring your organization into an orderly process. Just follow them in a systematic manner and get rid of nasty clutter in an efficient manner.
