How to Use a Plastic Bottle for New Projects

You know very well that plastics do not hold up well in dumps, but you still throw them out, why? Read this post to learn how you can reuse old plastic bottles in your home and make your house look great while showing concern for the environment at the same time.

Juice squeezer

Some two-liter soda bottles have a shape very useful for this purpose. They have a dent at the bottom that becomes a sharp point when the bottom is cut off from the rest of the bottle. Just cut the bottom off, and remember not to cut it very low because you need a little space to hold the squeezed juice. To use it, you just need to cut your oranges into two and press the cut surface on the pointed end of the cut bottle bottom.

Irrigation

This is also easy to do. You just cut the bottom of the bottles, turn them upside down, stick them to the soil at the roots of your plants and pour the water. You can even use them without cutting them. In this case, you just have to fill them with water, unscrew them and stick them to the base of your plants. Drip irrigation allows the water to seep deep into the soil for maximum absorption by the plants, and it also minimizes water usage.

Patio lighting effects

Lighting effects, particularly during festive seasons such as Christmas, can be very fun to have around the home. If you have different colored plastic bottles, just rope your LED Christmas lights through them and hang them in the patio. You can save some dollars this way and help clean your home surroundings at the same time.

Bracelets

This is probably one of the easiest ways to make a craft out of a plastic bottle. Just cut the bottle into the right shape for the bracelet and wear it. If you fancy yourself artistic enough, you can cut other smaller pieces to fuse with your bracelet to make it more elegant. What is more, plastic bottles are available in different sizes and colors to suit the personal preferences of most people.

Funnel

Making a funnel out of a funnel bottle is roughly the same as making a drip irrigation tool. You just cut the bottom of the bottle out and use it for channel liquids in to wherever you want them channeled. If you have a hamster or a gerbil, you can benefit greatly from such a cheap funnel. A funnel shaped bottle is best in this case. Don’t forget to read the cautions on health and safety of plastic bottles before using them on drinks.

Workout weights

The importance of weightlifting as a form of exercise cannot be underrated, and you can make cheap weights using old plastic bottles. For this project, you need slightly bigger bottles. You can fill the bottles with water, screw their lids tightly, and use them for weights. If you want heavy loads, fill them with sand rather than water.

Flowers

For this project, you need plastic bottles with grooves in the bottom. Cut off the bottom of your bottles carefully (it is these ends that you will use) into flower shapes. It can be extremely easy if you cut around the bottom grooves. Then you need a hot wire or needle to make holes through the center of your flower pieces. The final step is to hold them together using strings through the holes, or even fishing lines, and you can use them as decorative doorway hangers (especially for kid’s rooms) or in any other place you like.

Flower vases

For this, you need a plastic bottle, colored fabric and some glue. Cut off the top of the bottle, cover its outside surface with fabric glue and stick your colored fabric on it. Remember to cut enough fabric to bend and stick into the inside of the bottle. You can use it to hold flowers or even other small items in your house.

As you can see, there are many different ways of using old plastic bottles within the home. In fact, this is not even an exhaustive list of what you can do with these bottles. As they say, you will only be limited by your creativity and artistry.
