Image of the Week: Feng Shui Your Home [Infographic]

Feng Shui is an ancient Eastern practice of managing the flow of both positive and negative energy (also known as chi or qi) through homes, offices, and other spaces. Dwellings that are arranged to Feng Shui principles are thought to bring luck and harmony to the people who live or work in there. Contrary to popular belief, decorating an interior following Feng Shui tenets does not mean following an Asian theme. Feng Shui is primarily about balancing various elements, reducing clutter, and utilizing light and color to achieve happiness and good fortune; all of which, when incorporated into interior design, can result in a beautifully decorated home.

The five major elements that require balancing within a structure are wood, earth, fire, water, and metal. Each room can represent a distinct aspect in your life, like wealth and prosperity, children and creativity, love and relationships, and so forth. Determining what each room represents depends on the layout of the home. This Soothing Walls infographic provides a crash course on how to Feng Shui your home. It covers the colors needed to represent each element, what décor elements belong in each room, and how best to maximize the principles of Feng Shui in each area.
