Inspiration for the perfect country garden party

Get involved in this season’s hottest party trend-the truly British Vintage Garden Party. With economic times as they are what’s not to like about having that important party at your house instead of spending a fortune on a venue?

2012 is a big year for Britain with the Olympics being in London and the Diamond Jubilee just gone (football shall not be mentioned…) and they are perfect occasions to throw an intimate party; not that you need one of course. The simplicity of these parties is what makes them so perfect, and if everyone helps out then you’re on to a winner! They are so versatile too, a garden party would make the perfect birthday on one of those warm summer evenings, or even an engagement party! It’s about fun, it’s about making use of the space you have and more importantly, it’s about spending an unforgettable night with the people that you love! So here are a few simple tips to get you started..

Preparation

You can’t have a proper party without invitations. Make your guests feel special by sending them a beautiful vintage inspired invitation. It doesn’t have to be expensive, bring out some of those skills you learned in high school…print the invitation out, stick it on some card, stain it with tea (along with the envelope) and slightly burn the edges. Easy.

Food

Keep it simple and keep it British. We are talking cucumber sandwiches, a big bowl of fresh salad, mini pork pies and sausage rolls, scones, Victoria sponge, cupcakes, strawberries and cream…you get the idea. If you get everyone to bring one dish you are sorted!

Drink

Pimms. Possibly with some lemonade.  And lots and lots of fruit!

Garden Accessories

The look we are going for here is British, vintage and ultimately cosy. This means lots of shabby chic furniture, candles and fairy lights everywhere you can put them and bunting. Bunting is a must, preferably with Union Jacks on…

Now, get cracking and enjoy!
