The impact a bathroom can have on a home is remarkable. For many reasons the bathroom has transformed from an obscured room relegated to the far back corner of the home into one of the most important and often luxurious parts of the house. A scruffy dirty bathroom can turn off a potential buyer faster than anything else. And, the opposite is true as well; an attractive bathroom has the power to radiate its charm throughout the whole house and has proven to increase resale value.
There are endless ways to improve a shoddy bathroom, from a complete overhaul to a few small changes that make a huge difference. Here are a few tips on how to easily improve your bathroom, whether for your own enjoyment or to increase the value of your home.
- A bathroom, like any other room in a home, must have a focal point. The focal point is what will attract the most attention, catching one’s eye right away. Whatever the focal point of your bathroom is it has to be striking. I often use the bathroom vanity to create a focal point. It’s a good choice because vanities are available in every size, shape, style, color and price. There are endless gorgeous options and finding one that is perfect for you should not be hard. When shopping around for a bathroom vanity keep in mind your lifestyle and needs. If you are in a small city apartment for example the vanity may be your only option for storage in the bathroom so you will want to get something with an adequate amount of drawers and cabinets.

- Mirrors are a fabulous, popular trick used for visually expanding and brightening small areas. If your bathroom feels cramped try placing a large mirror on the wall (it should be visible when you enter the bathroom). You can find really beautiful mirrors which are not only useful but decorative too! For even more functionality you can get a mirrored medicine cabinet. Luxury medicine cabinets have made a grand entrance into the market recently, most notable by companies such as Robern and Electric Mirror.

- If your budget is tight perk-up your bathroom with some trendy trimmings. A chic rug, shower curtain and accessories can do wonders in modernizing an out-of-date bathroom.
Good luck on your bathroom project and always remember that decorating should be fun! There are endless sources of decorating inspiration out there so take advantage and enjoy your beautiful new bathroom!

I need to replace 2 toilets and love the one in the first image.
What is it’s name/model?
I’d like to follow up with someone from Sears.
Thanks, Jane
Hi Jane – We’re glad you enjoyed our blog post! The toilet in the photo above is from a stock photo, so we don’t know what the name/model is. We did find something similar on ebay and this might give you a good start: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLAUDIUS-One-Piece-Dual-Flush-Modern-Toilet-Art-Deco-/220789129508
Wow! The color on wall which is used in the bathroom is so bright. It actually feels nice.
