Making your Garden a Livable Space

Gardens are great for many reasons. Many people garden for fun, and for many it is a soothing activity that brings much satisfaction to their lives. There is nothing better than knowing you have succeeded in nurturing life through hard work and lots of TLC. What boggles my mind though is why more people do not intertwine their lives in their garden after all the hard work is done. Instead of sitting back on your patio and looking out over your garden, make a patio-like area in your garden as well, perhaps out of paving stones from Westminster Stone or another mason. Don’t get me wrong, it is great to look out to your garden and admire its beauty but there are many things you can do or put into your garden to make it a place to live, spend time and entertain rather than just always admire it from afar.

Make your garden an at home get-a-way, a place to relax. After a long hard day at work what could be better than reading a great book in a hammock surrounded by all your beautiful flowers, trees and bushes. Adding a hammock to your garden gives your multi-colored paradise a more relaxing feel and sends the message that it is ok to kick off your shoes and relax. It is also a great way to bring your life into its life.

Make your garden a place for your family to gather. Adding some cozy patio furniture somewhere in your garden can create a gathering place for your family and also friends. We forget sometimes that we are animals and our ancestors used to spend a whole lot more time outside then we do now in our busy urban lives. The need to be one with wildlife still lingers in our unconscious mind which is why people enjoy being surrounded by greenery and beautiful flowers; it’s calming, eye catching and a great way to melt all of the stress from the day away. Having a patio-like area in your garden can give your family a place to relax together while creating a stronger family bond free of distractions such as the TV or the house phone ringing. This area is also great for catching up with friends and having some afternoon tea on a Sunday or a small brunch, plus it’s a great way to really show off your garden and enjoy it at the same time.

Make your garden a place for entertainment. If your family loves to entertain and have people over, another great idea is adding a long table somewhere in your garden. Having a table will allow you to really entertain in your garden while enjoying the outdoors. Throwing a dinner party or even just enjoying a meal with your family outside creates wonderful life long memories. Adding some kind of hanging lights too can create a magical mood and extend your time to enjoy the area.
