Close your eyes and picture your dream closet. Is it a glorious walk-in with cedar-lined walls, countless shelves, racks and drawers, full-length mirrors, perfect lighting, and enough space to host a fashion show?
If only there was some way to turn that dream into reality.
Frustratingly, many us have to make the most of limited and cramped storage spaces – cramming our clothes into closets designed for people who clearly never made fashion a priority. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to make the most of a tiny closet.

1. Trim the fat
Sure, that t-shirt you got when you ran that 10K six years ago has sentimental value (you trained for months!) but if the last time you wore it was when you drove home from the race, it’s time you kick that shirt off the island. So, call a friend for support, thin out your wardrobe, and make a few bucks by selling your old clothes at consignment. Better yet, donate them to your local thrift store. After all, the easiest way to create more closet space is to cut down on the amount of stuff taking up space.
2. Shelve that idea
Most closets are seriously lacking when it comes to the shelving department. As a result most of us scrape together piecemeal shelving solutions as we need them. Take a step back and figure out your ideal shelving needs. Then take a trip to your favorite home store and get the solutions that will maximize your limited closet space.
3. Seasons change. So should your closet.
Unless you’re planning a trip to the Arctic, there’s no need to let those bulky sweaters take up precious closet real estate. Head to the store and pick up a bunch of storage bins to get your out-of-season duds out of sight and out of mind. Just remember, that doesn’t mean you should go shopping to fill up that extra space (not that we’d blame you!)
